Abstract

The effect of pH and light on the germination of zoospores of Phytophthoro drechsleri f. sp. cajani has been observed. The zoos pores germinated in a wide range of pH (4.0 to 11.0). The maximum germination (73 per cent) was observed at pH 7.5. Light also had marked inhibitory effect on zoospore germination. Maximum germination (84.7 per cent) was obtained in complete darkness. The reduction in germination ensued following exposure of zoospores to light of low intensity but, at 500 lux, the germination was completely inhibited.
