Abstract

In-vitro effect of volatiles of some plant extracts, viz., garlic (Allium sativum L.} and onion (A. cepa L.) bulbs, ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe.) rhizomes, leaves of tulsi (Ocimum sanctum L.) and basil (0. basilicum L.) on germination of zoospores of Phytophthora drechsleri f. sp. cajani has been observed. The volatiles from extracts of garlic and onion bulbs inhibited spore germination at 5000 and WOOO ppm, respectively. Others were ineffective even at 50,000 ppm. Possibility of using garlic and onion extracts in the field for controlling Phytophthara blight of pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan (L.) Mill sp.) has been shown.
