Abstract

The present investigation was carried out in Dhenkanal district of Odisha with an aim to identify the constraints perceived by the fish farmers in the adoption of composite carp culture technology. Primary data were collected from 71 fish farmers practicing composite carp culture using a structured schedule. The average pond area was found to be 0.5 acre and a mean fish yield of 2.1 t/ha/yr. It is observed that 44, 38 and 18 percent of the respondents were in the category of high, medium, and low level of adoption respectively. Constraints were grouped under five dimensions e.g., extension, technological, economic, social, and marketing. Extension, technological and economic constraints were ranked as I, II and III, in terms of severity. Theft and poaching, lack of know-how, inadequate training, lack of access to pond and high cost of feed were the other constraints in decreasing order of severity. Key words Composite Carp Culture; Fish farmers; Constraints; Adoption; Technology
