Abstract

A relational database, named RRDBMS (River, Reservoir and Wetland Database Management System) has been developed with the objective of systematically storing data on various abiotic (morphological, sediment and water quality) and biotic (plankton, pheriphyton, macrobenthic organisms, macrophytes, gear wise and species specific fish catch) parameters of inland aquatic resources like river, reservoir, wetlands, etc. This software would facilitate in bringing scattered research data under one roof so that researchers and planners can use the inland fishery data at any point of time. The software has been developed in a user-friendly environment with menus and shortcuts, so that any user can operate the system easily.

Key words: Database, river, reservoir, wetland, RRDBMS, Visual Basic.
