HATCHERY BREEDING OF ANABAS TESTUDINEUS WITH DIFFERENT INDUCING AGENTS AND ANALYSIS OF BROOD FISH HEALTH

Abstract
Carp Pituitary Extract (CPE) and Ovaprim were used to assess the reproductive performance and survivability of Anabas testudineus in hatchery. The latency period and fertilization time were shorter on CPE induction than with Ovaprim but the percentages of ovulation, fertilization and hatching were alike. Peripheral blood analysis of brooders pointed towards significant reductions in red cell count, haemoglobin and haematocrit values on Ovaprim treatment. Inhibition of erythroblast formation in haemopoietic tissues, significant increase in neutrophil and reduction in macrophage population were observed. The fishes on CPE injection did not show any significant alteration in haemogram and in haemopoeitic cell population. Domperidone as dopamine inhibitor might cause hypoxic stress to non lethal limit by inhibiting erythrocyte formation.
