LENGTH WEIGHT RELATIONSHIP AND CONDITION FACTOR OF GUDUSIA CHAPRA (HAM.) FROM RIVER YAMUNA

Abstract
Studies were made on the length-weight relationship, condition factor and relative condition factor of Gudusia chapra (Ham.) from river Yamuna near Allahabad. In length-weight relationship the value of the exponent (b) for males, females and pooled data were estimated as 2.7900, 2.8950 and 2.8138, respectively. The estimates for males and females were not significantly different. Season-wise analysis of data also did not reflect any significant difference in the estimates for regression coefficient. The b values were significantly different from ‘3’, thus indicating about allometric growth. The relative condition factor ranged from 0.8517 to 1.1076 and showed marked fluctuations over the months. Graphical representation of condition factor revealed that the main point of inflection is at 8-9 cm, which shows that the fish matures at a length of around 8 cm.
