LENGTH-WEIGHT RELATIONSHIP AND CONDITION FACTOR IN PUNTIUS AMPHIBIUS (VALENCIENNES) AND PUNTIUS VITTATUS DAY FROM BARAK VALLEY REGION OF ASSAM

Abstract
The Length-Weight (L-W) relationship of different fish species have been reported from different water bodies in India and abroad (Beckman, 1948; Le Cren, 1951; Jhingran, 1952; Jhingran, 1968; Srivastava and Pandey,1981; Kar and Barbhuiya, 2000; 2005; Patgiri et al., 2001; Kar et al., 2005). However, the L-W relationship and Condition Factor (CF) of Puntius amphibius (Valenciennes) and Puntius vittatus Day have not been studied so
far from the water bodies of Barak valley region. As such, this work was undertaken to study the L-W relationship and CF (K) of two freshwater (FW) fishes, viz., P. amphibius and P. vittatus collected from River Singla (N 24o
21’ 26.6â€, E 92o 23’ 30.6â€) and Puneer Haor (N 24o 32’ 20â€, E 92 o 49’ 57.6â€) situated in the Barak Valley (BV) region of Assam.
