Abstract

The utmost attention to increase agricultural production to attain self suffiency in food grains resulted in green revolution in the state of Punjab. But with the predominance of wheat and paddy rotation, decrease in the size of the
holdings, over-use of fertilizers and pesticides, Punjab agriculture has become stagnant. The need of the hour seems to diversify in favour of non crop enterprises. Subsidiary occupations like fish farming may lead to increase in income generation to the farmers, increase in employment oppurtunities and improve ecological status of the state as well as economic welfare of the farmers.
