Abstract
Glossogobius giuris is a carnivorous species belonging to the family Gobiidae under order Perciformes. It is benthopelagic in nature and inhabits primarily in freshwater and also found in brackish and marine environments. Whileexploring the lower stretches of river Ganga for fish biodiversity assessment, a large specimen of G.guiris was collected which appeared to be a new record size. The species has high market value as a food fish in Assam and West Bengal. The importance of conservation of this species was discussed by Das et
al. (2004) who categorized it under Vulnerable (VU) group. The details of the record size specimen have been presented in this communication.
