Inter-sectoral governance in inland small-scale fisheries
136 / 1
Abstract
The importance of small-scale fisheries to food security, poverty eradication and sustainable livelihoods for millions of people is well recognized. According to the estimates by the Sea Around Us Project , small-scale fisheries contribute at least 25% of the world catches and more than 90% of the people involved in fisheries, whether full-time or part-time and including those in the post-harvest part of the fish chain, are associated with small-scale fisheries (FAO 2015). Small-scale fisheries occur mostly in the global south, with the majority of fishing people in Asia. But they can also be found in all of Europe, Canada and US, and other developed countries.
