Field investigations were carried out during 2018-20 at ICAR-Indian Institute of Oilseeds Research, Hyderabad to evaluate the organic farming modules for sesame in sesame-soybean cropping system and its direct and/or cumulative effect on the succeeding sesame crop. The field experiment comprised of eight treatments with five organic nutrient management modules viz., farmyard manure (FYM), green leaf manure, castor cake, neem cake alone and a combination of FYM + vermicompost + goat manure applied on equal nitrogen basis to meet the recommended dose of fertilizers (RDF). Phosphorus requirement was met through rock phosphate. This was compared with crop raised on native soil nutrient support as control, inorganic nutrient management and 50% inorganic and 50% nutrient supplementation through FYM. The experiment waslaid out in a randomized complete block design replicated thrice. Application of green leaf manure during 2019 has recorded comparable yield to that of 100% nutrient management through inorganic fertilizers, while in soybean, combined application of FYM + vermicompost + goat manure was comparable to 50% organic + 50% inorganic nutrient management. In the subsequent crop of sesame during 2020, 100% inorganic nutrient management was comparable with combined application of FYM + vermicompost + goat manure, and the latter was comparable with green leaf manure application. Neither oil content nor its composition has shown any variation due to the organic farming modules. Modules involving FYM viz., 100% RDF through FYM (module 2) and 100% RDF through FYM + vermicompost + Goat manure (module 6) had a profound effect on the build-up of soil organic carbon after three seasons/crops. While, the former (Module 2) recorded the highest average SOC (0.78%) followed by the latter (module 6) with 0.67% SOC suggesting its potential use in the long run for soil health management under organic farming.
