Abstract

The millennium challenge of producing more food from less land envisages high technological intervention. Seed is the delivery system through which most of the scientific advancements get transferred to crop production. The development of a desirable seed product is the key to modern agriculture and involves conventional plant breeding, biotechnology and seed technology, aided by innovative agronomic practices. This article explores the historic and prospective technologies delivered through seed, which had and promises to have a significant impact on global agricultural scenario.
