Abstract

Soybean root rot caused by Rhizoctonia solani and Fusarium solani occurrs in the severe form in fields of southern Rajasthan. Seed transmission of both the fungi was attempted from surface sterilized and un-sterilized seeds of five popular cultivars of soybean. The pathogen R. solani and F. solani were recovered from seeds of all five cultivars. Two fungicides carbendazim and tebuconazole, local isolates of Trichoderma viride and Bacillus spp. found effective in vitro, were tested to develop an sustainable management of the disease. These were evaluated individually as well as in different combinations for suppression of soybean root rot in pathogen inoculated soil in pots. Seed treatment with carbendazim + T. viride + Bacillus spp. resulted in the highest germination of seeds & dry biomass and lowest disease as compared to their individual treatments as well as the untreated control. This was followed by seed treatment with carbendazim + Bacillus spp. The biocontrol agents (BCAs) applied as seed treatment established in rhizosphere, and suppressed both the pathogen.
