Abstract

The bacterial blight of pomegranate caused by Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. punicae is serious and major disease in pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) cultivation in India threatening the export potential of this important fruit crop. A primer set KKM 5 and KKM 6 was used for detection of 23 isolates of X. axonopodis pv. punicae isolated from different disease samples collected from different geographical regions of India. The primer set gave product size of 491 bp which is specific to only X. axonopodis pv. punicae confirming the utility of molecular detection technique for quick and accurate detection of this bacterial pathogen.
