Post harvest management of designated diseases - wheat and paddy bunts under changing climatic scenario
Keywords:
Karnal bunt, mechanical seed processing, paddy bunt, post harvestAbstract
Karnal bunt (KB) and paddy bunt (PB) are highly dependent on suitable weather conditions i.e. abundant rains and low temperature at anthesis favoured disease development and difficult to be detected in the fields; therefore, post harvest management of bunts through mechanical processing is very important. During seed processing, pre-cleaner and screen grader removed 77.8 and 44.7% of bunted seed present in wheat and paddy seed lots and reduced KB and PB infection from 3.57 to 0.79% and 1.32 to 0.73%, respectively which are higher than the permissible limits. 18 combinations, comprising of three slopes, three feedings and two output settings of specific gravity separator were studied. Minimum KB and PB infection in final product (0.11%, 0.49%), maximum seed recovery (12.69, 13.27Kg/minute) with 85.7 and 89.1% recovery efficiency was obtained by minimum deck slope of 20 and 1.50, maximum feeding of 15 Kg/min, maximum output deck width of 45 and 40cm, respectively.Downloads
