Abstract

Mycotoxin producing fungi are widespread in nature, infecting and colonizing various agricultural produces, both in field as well as storage. An attempt has been made in this investigation to record mycotoxin producing strains of Aspergillus flavus and Fusarium moniliforme, both in SMKY liquid culture medium and on two varieties (Pusa Mahak and Pusa Tarak) of mustard seeds. All the eleven types of fungal associations with toxigenic strain of A. flavus and F. moniliforme were found to inhibit mycotoxin production in liquid culture in varying concentrations. Maximum inhibition in aflatoxin B1 (80.76%) and zearalenone (47.22%) production was observed in variety Pusa Mahak when the seed were co-culture with Cladosporium herbarum. In Pusa Tarak variety maximum inhibition in aflatoxin B1 (80.41%) and zearalenone production (47.61%) was observed with C. herbarum.
