Post harvest losses of grapes due to fungal diseases are of prime importance which reduce quality and quantity of marketable fruit leading to heavy losses to farmers as to well as consumers. Among the vineyards surveyed in Ahmednagar district for occurrence of post harvest diseases of grapes, it was observed that black mould caused by Aspergillus niger and blue mould rot caused by Penicillium aurantiogriseum were severe in markets than at field. In the present study, the application of Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain-I and strain-II to surface of grape berries elicited systemic resistance against Alternaria alternata, P. aurantiogriseum both in vitro and in vivo conditions. Out of the three botanicals tested, Allium sativum both at 5 and 10 per cent concentration was found most effective with maximum inhibition of radial mycelial growth of all the three pathogens in vitro condition. The sprays at 5 and 10 per cent yeast concentration increased the shelf life of bunches than control. The grape guard also found effective in increasing the shelf life of grape bunches.Downloads
