Abstract

Two new chemical compounds namely X-Rid (Cu 9%) and Karmaar (Micropungin, N+S with Cu, Zn & Mn) were tested in vitro for fungicidal activity against important fungal pathogens Rhizoctonia solani, Macrophomina phaseolina, Bipolaris maydis and Sclerotium rolfsii. Performance of X-Rid (1 and 1.5 ml/L) was excellent against all the tested fungi. Karmaar was effective against R. solani at 1.5 g/L and against M. phaseolina at 1.0g/L. Bipolaris maydis and S. rolfsii were not sensitive to Karmaar. Both new molecules were used in managing banded leaf sheath blight (BLSB) of maize caused by R. solani f. sp. sasakii and compared with two standards Validamycin and Hexaconazole. With respect to percent disease index (PDI) inhibition two sprays of Validamycin (2.7 ml/L) closely followed by Karmaar (3g/L) were highly effective. Karmaar showed positive impact on the physiological attributes of maize (Vivek Hybrid 9) with respect to root, shoot and plant weight without significant effect on superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity. Karmaar was also superior in controlling powdery mildew of okra caused by Erysiphe cichoracerum DC.
