Interest, awareness and discussions about biodiversity conservation in India have increasingly expanded to include rangelands on both national and international platforms. Rangeland ecosystems are characterized by a vital interplay between plant species that serve as forage and grazing animals that act as consumers. The hot arid rangelands in India provide a habitat for a distinctive array of flora and fauna that have evolved to thrive in harsh climatic conditions. This paper explores the biodiversity and conservation issues of hot arid rangelands and highlights the role of traditional conservation practices in addressing these challenges.
