Ajmer Fenugreek-4 (AFg-4): A high yielding with enhanced quality fenugreek variety

A high yielding coupled with enhanced quality parameters, variety of fenugreek Ajmer fenugreek-4 (AFg-4) developed through pure line selection from a germplasm line collected from Sikar area of Rajasthan. In multilocation coordinated trials conducted during 2010-12, AFg-4 gave 12.5 % superior as for seed yield compared to national checks Hisar Sonali. AFg-4 has having advantage of quality aspects which possessing of enhanced quality parameters viz. 18.1% higher saponin, 30.8% higher diosgenin contain, 11.9% higher 4-hdroxyisolucine contain and 13.9 higher in fiber contain. AFg-4 found moderately resistant to powdery mildew and root rot diseases. The average percent disease intensity was recorded 22.7% while it was 40-50 % in check varieties for powdery mildew. It is notified for cultivation for all the fenugreek cultivating areas of India (Notification No. S.O 3666 (E) dated 06-12-2016). Seed of AFg-4 has been deposited in NBPGR and IC number (IC-612494) allotted for future reference.
