Abstract

Droughts that are severe and last for a long time are being caused by climate change, which will have an important effect
on crop growth and output. To ascertain the effect of drought on various characteristics of 73 Indian mustard genotypes,
the current study was carried out in both irrigated and rainfed conditions. The RH 0749 was reported to have the highest
seed yield under irrigation, while Pusa Bold had the highest seed yield under rainfed conditions. Membrane stability
index (37.78%), seed yield per plant (28.62%), seed yield per hectare (28.62%), number of secondary branches (28.13%),
and number of primary branches (28.08%) showed the major percent reduction (>25%) while traits like number of siliquae
per plant, number of seeds per siliqua, test weight, number of siliquae on main raceme, and SPAD chlorophyll metre
reading had more than twenty but less than 25 percent reduction. The range of the yield reduction in percentage was 7.25
to 57.78. In a rainfed situation, the genotypes RB-50 and Pusa Bold showed a minimum percent yield loss which can be
exploited as parents in mustard breeding for rainfed condition
