Abstract

Ten oyster mushroom species were evaluated for their yield performance as well as quality attributes in the coastal agro-ecological situation of Odisha during the winter season of 201011. Biological efficiency of Pleurotus florida was the highest (115.33 %), followed by Hypsizygous ulmarius (102.83 %) in the investigation. However, another popular species, P. sajor-caju registered low yield level (77.08 %) owing to smaller fruit body size (10.16 g) in comparison to P. florida (16.16 g) and   H. ulmarius (30.66 g).  P. eous, the pink mushroom had the lowest biological efficiency (44.41 %). The yellow oyster, P. cornucopiae had a modest biological efficiency of 59.33 %. The crude protein content (on dry weight basis) varied considerably among the species. P. flabellatus recorded the highest protein content (30.88 %) followed by P. ostreatus (30.61 %) and  P. eous (30.31 %). Protein contents of P. sajor-caju and P. florida were 27.60 and 22.86 % respectively.
