Abstract
A study on length-weight relationship, morphometric and meristic characters of Priacanthus hamrur (Forsskal, 1889) from Mumbai waters indicated a negative allometric relationship and a high degree of homogeneity within the population. The length-weight relationship was calculated as W= 0.0153 L2.9298 (male), W= 0.0204 L2.8422 (female) and W= 0.0167 L2.9029 (pooled). The deviations in the growth rate (b) as reported by different workers in India in comparison to the present study is a result of the influence of the environmental and geographical factors, and difference in the stocks. From the present investigation the fin formula can be written as B. vi, D.10/13-15, P. 18-19, V. 1/5, A. 3/14-15, C. 17, LL. 70-90. The
slight variations observed in the fin rays may indicate different stocks
