Neonoemacheilus morehensis, a new species of Nemacheiline loach (Balitoridae: Nemacheilinae) from the Yu-River system of Manipur
Abstract
Neonoemacheilus morehensis, a new species is described from the Yu-River systemof Manipur. The species closely resembles N. assamensis, N. labeosus and N.
peguensis but differs by the following unique combinations of characters : 14 to
18 dorso-lateral vertical bars with distinct dark patch at the base of caudal fin,
a short transverse groove at the anterior nostril, two unbranched dorsal fin rays,
one unbranched anal fin ray, dorsal fin inserted closed to base of caudal fin, length
of dorsal fin base 11.36 to 16.36%, anal fin base 5.45 to 6.82% and height of caudal
peduncle 9.09 to 10.91% of standard length, eye diameter 20.00 to 21.45% and
66.66 to 75.18% of length of head and interorbital distance respectively, distance
between anal opening to anal fin origin 45.45 to 46.72% of distance between pelvic
fin to anal fin origin and height of caudal peduncle 80 to 86% of length of caudal
peduncle.
