Abstract

A water quality survey was conducted in the semi arid tract of Agra district. The survey was primarily confined to brackish water affected eight blocks of this district. In all 431 water samples were collected and analysed. These water were Na+ -MG ++-Ca ++ type with respect to cations. The anionic composition was HCO3- - SO4=-Cl1 type in waters of low EC reneges and Cl1 - SO4=-HCO3- High Residual Sodium Carbonate water was ound mainly in low EC range water samples. Salinity is likely to be the major problem in this locality as a result of the applicantion of such underground water. Salinity of under ground water was found to increase towards the direction of higher aridity of Mathura and Bharatpur districts.
