Abstract

The arid regions have relatively fewer plant and animal species. Thus whatever flora and fauna is available in these regi;ms need to be conserved. A loss of species from the region results in higher percentage loss of biodiversity. Realizing the importance of biodiversity iocal inhabitants have devised diverse ways to limit their impact. Such regions are also exposed to changes in climate that adversely affects the productivity. The paper will also examine the economic issues related to biodiversity in arid regions, focusing especially on the relatiolls]1ips between biodiversity and various kinds of development activities. The major-constraint in implementing conservation on Biological Diversity (CBD) in arid regions lies not in the biology of concerned species, but rather in social, economic nnd political . arenas with which people operate. We need to involve local people in our drive, to biodiversity conservation, educating them highlighting its significance. Degraded ecosystems need to be restored and stimulate greater public support for biodiversity conservation.
