Abstract

Seasonal changes in semen characteristics of Magra rams have been studied. The semen samples were collected from each experimental animal on every third day using a transistorised electro-ejaculator. The average volume of semen was found to be 0.71 ml. In winter, the volume of semen was significantly higher than in spring. Average motility and mass activity values were 70.27 and 3.66 respectively. but seasonal differences were not statistically significant. Average sperm concentration was found to be 1.783 billions/ml. hut no significant seasonal differences were observed in this respect. Average pH values came to 6.8 and in spring the pH values were significantly higher than in winter. The quality of semen in winter and spring is considered as good when the rams were solely maintained on zizyphus leaves.
