During roller drafting, some of edge fibres are moving away from the normal strand which are either collected as waste or get attached freely on the yarn surface which affects mainly the surface characteristics of the yarn. So this study aims to understand the amount of waste collected at drafting system for different hanks of cotton roving as well as polyester/cotton blended roving for different break drafts, traveller numbers and twist levels. The results shows that the fibre strand width increases while decreasing the hank of the roving for both cotton and polyester/cotton blended roving and while increasing the break drafts. The amount of fibers collected as waste at drafting roller increases with increase in fibre strand width, traveler weight and twist level.References
