Keywords:
Fatty acids, Mineral, Proximate composition, Rohu, VitaminAbstract
The study was conducted to investigate the variation in proximate composition, mineral contents, vitamin contents and fatty acid compositions of Labeo rohita reared in Freshwater (FW) and waste water (WW). The samples were collected from different parts of West Bengal and according to bodyweight of the collected samples they were categorized as 1-500(g) as Group1 and 501-2000 (g) as Group2 for both (FW and WW) reared system. The protein content was significantly higher (P<0.05) in (1-500g) Group1 of WW reared rohu. Sodium and potassium content was significantly higher (P<0.05) in WW reared rohu in both the weight ranges whereas iron content was significantly higher (P<0.05) in FW reared rohu in both the Groups. Group1 (1-500g) contained the higher content of zinc in FW reared rohu. Vitamin A, D, E and K was significantly higher (P<0.05) for Group1 in FW reared rohu. Among PUFA: EPA and DHA was significantly higher (P<0.05) in WW reared rohu for Group2. Results from the present study indicated that proximate, mineral, vitamin and fatty acid contents were similar for both the reared rohu.
