Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench) a highly valued vegetable crop widely cultivated extensively in tropical and subtropical regions due to its economic and nutritional value particularly its high protein, oil and iodine content. Despite its importance, global productivity inconsistent, with India facing particular challenges due to various pests and diseases specifically Yellow Vein Mosaic Virus (YVMV). Therefore, evaluating the breeding potential of parental lines is important for selecting superior combiners. The study was carried out Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Chatha, Jammu (J&K) during kharif season February- June of 2020-21 and 2021-22.This study employs diallel mating designs to assess genetic interactions revealing significant additive and non-additive variance components influencing yield and related traits. Graphical Vr-Wr analysis elucidates dominance relationships and genetic diversity among parental arrays, aiding in identifying promising crosses for hybrid development. High narrow sense heritability was observed for the characters viz., fruit diameter, FW, incidence of YVMV and incidence of fruit and shoot borer while low narrow sense heritability was recorded for days to 50% flowering, internodal distance, number of ridges per fruit, NFP, NPP, Protein and C content. By leveraging genetic insights derived from diallel analysis, this research contributes to the strategic selection of parental lines and the development of superior hybrids, thus paving the way for sustainable okra production and meeting global demand.
