Abstract

The present study estimates the combining ability effects for identifying the lines and cross combinations superior for yield, its contributing traits and quality parameters. The variances for GCA and SCA were highly significant reflecting the role of additive and non-additive gene effects in the expression of traits studied. More prominent additive gene effects were also observed as indicated by relatively higher magnitude of variance for GCA for the yield, contributing and quality traits studied. The lines RCML5, RCML1 and RCNL4 were observed to be the best general combiners for yield, while RCML16, RCML5 and RCML10 for capsaicin content. Cross combinations viz., RCML-9 × RCNL-1; RCML-11 × RCNL-1 and RCML-9 × RCML-11 were identified as promising combinations with respect to yield and capsaicin content.
