Abstract

A half diallel mating design was used to hybridize seven bell pepper inbred parental lines, yielding 21 F hybrids, excluding reciprocals. The generated F hybrids, parental lines, and commercial check hybrid were evaluated to investigate per se performance, combining 1
ability effects, and the magnitude of heterosis over the better-parent and commercial check for quality traits such as ascorbic acid,
total carotenoid, and antioxidant traits, using a randomised complete block design with three replications. It was inferred that hybrids
that were superior based on per se performance involved good specific combiners, and their crosses were heterotic over commercial
check. The present study also concluded the non-additive gene action, governing the nutritional traits in bell pepper.
