Chilli cultivation is significantly affected by leaf curl disease caused by the Chilli leaf curl virus (ChiLCV), transmitted by whiteflies. This
study aimed to identify resistant genotypes to ChiLCV. Forty-one germplasms from the Horticulture Research and Extension Centre,
Devihosur, and seven hybrids from the Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Bengaluru, along with the susceptible check Byadagi
Kaddi, were screened under field and glasshouse conditions during 2023-24. The genotypes Arka Gagan (3.57%), Arka Tejasvi (4.17%),
and DCA-295 (9.09%) showed resistance, while Arka Saanvi (29.50%) was moderately resistant. The remaining 44 genotypes were
susceptible to ChiLCV. Genotypic analysis using ChiLCV coat protein-specific primers confirmed that Arka Gagan, Arka Tejasvi, and
DCA-295 were resistant, as they did not show ChiLCV amplification. These genotypes offer promising candidates for developing
resistant varieties and hybrids to combat the disease.
