Abstract

An investigation was carried out to study the effect of immersing planting materials (suckers) of banana cultivar Nendran (Plantain - AAB) in boiling water at 15, 30, 45 and 60 seconds duration on nematode infestation, germination and growth of the suckers. Significant decrease in population of root lesion nematode, Pratylenchus coffeae and complete elimination of population of root knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita were observed on suckers immersed for 45 and 60 seconds duration. Germination of the suckers was not affected across the treatments and significant increase in plant height, girth and number of leaves was observed between the treated and control plants.
