Abstract

A water budgeting procedure was developed taking field gradient and bund height into consideration for the determination of drainage coefficient for coastal paddy areas. Various water budget components were computed based on simple methods requiring limited meteorological parameters that are commonly available in India. This approach was compared with modified USDA SCS-CN method, which assumes a constant curve number for estimating runoff from paddy fields. Water budgeting procedure proved to be superior as compared to the USDA SCS-CN method for generation of daily runoff depth (drainage coefficient) for paddy growing coastal areas.
