Abstract

Designing of drip irrigation system with desired uniformity is a complex and time consuming process. Designing with tapered pipes makes the designing still difficult. Many alternative designs have to be evaluated to arrive at a satisfactory design. Therefore, in this work a software to design the drip irrigation subunit has been developed. A generic equation to determine pressure head distribution in pipelines with equally spaced multiple outlets with outflow at downstream end has been derived. The manufacturing variation of emitters has been accounted for by assuming it as normal distribution. The software has been so designed that the data entry and revision of design data and viewing the results are very much interactive and user friendly. The utility of the software has been demonstrated with a sample design of drip irrigation system for a real field situation.
