Abstract

The effect of the subsurface drainage in reclaiming the waterlogged and saline soils was studied in the Upper Krishna Command (UKP) area of Karnataka using salt and water balance approach. The study revealed that from the influence area of a selected lateral, 321 and 634 mm of water has been drained off from the soil profile in the form of runoff, evapotranspiration and drain discharge during the kharif and the rabi seasons, respectively. Further, the amount of salt removed from the area was 0.98 and 1.09 tons, respectively in these two seasons.
