Abstract

The forest cover in India is dwindling at an alarming rate. The indiscriminate plunder of forests has reduced India's forest cover from 23 per cent of total land area in 1951 to 10.7 percent today, the reasons being the increasing population and that of cattle head and their pressure on forests for food, fuel and fodder
