Abstract

M egalaspis cordyla (Linuaeus, 1758) bone of Hu~ shoaling commcrcinlly important pelagic fish In the Norlhwesl coast oJ'
India. The study on l'oud ltnd feeding habits of' this fish rt'Ve:Jlcd that it is predominantly ,a carnivorous Sp<'dcs feeding
prinuarily on serges tid shrimps like Acetes indicus and small fiShes such as Stoleplwrus speCies. In addition it feeds on
juveniles of Trichiuru.~, Apogon, Coilia, Sanlinella, Nemipterus, Thryssa, and sciaenid!;, The food of M. t•ordyla also
compri<;cs the young ones of molluscs, especially Lo/igo and Sepia, aud occassionally ostracod'>. The choke food i~Aeetes
i11dicus.
