Abstract
                                ABSTRACT
Capparis decidua is a very well known medicinal herb possessing significant pharmacological activities like hypercholesterolemia, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antidiabetic, anti-plaque and antihelmintic activities. In the current research the effect of extraction solvents on extraction yield, total phenolics and total flavonoids contents of C. decidua flowers was investigated alongwith its nutritional parameters. The extract yield of crude extracts in different solvents ranged from 4.93 (in acetone) to 49.13 g/100g (in water). In C. decidua flowers total phenolics content (mg GAE/g d.w.b.) was highest in water extract (4.4) followed by ethanol (2.88) and acetone (2.33) extracts, whereas total flavonoids content (mg CE/g d.w.b.) was highest in acetone (0.35) extract followed by ethanol (0.32) and water (0.18) extracts. It was found that C. decidua flowers are rich source of ascorbic acid (65.57 mg/100g), crude protein (14.44%) and essential minerals such as Zn (21.28 ppm), Fe (145.1 ppm), Mn (78.5 ppm) and Cu (10 ppm). High ascorbic acid, essential mineral contents and total phenolics & flavonoids contents indicated that Kair flowers could be a potential source of natural antioxidant for food and nutraceutical applications.
