Abstract

Research study was conducted to find out the best media for the culturing of the Lentinula edodes (Berk.) Pegler. Different solid media viz., PDA, PSA, MEA, CMA and YMA were used for the comparative cultural studies. From the results obtained, it was found that Potato sucrose agar media is responsible for the maximum mycelial growth of this mushroom i.e. 9.1 cm, followed by MEA, PDA CMA and minimum mycelial growth of 2.33 cm on YMA media. Similarly, the effect of five liquid media/broth viz., PDB, PSB, MEB, YESB and OMB was also observed for the mycelial mat formation of L.edodes at 22 + 2oC. Results revealed that PSB was the best liquid media for the vegetative growth of L.edodes which was statically on par with OMB. The PDB was found to be statistically inferior liquid media for the growth of L.edodes while other media tested supported mycelial mat formation of L.edodes.
