Abstract

GenusPleurotus mushroom is world second largest cultivated mushroom. It requires lesser infrastructural requirement as compared to button and shiitake mushroom. Itscultivation is also comparatively simpler than other mushrooms. This mushroom is gifted with enormous species diversity that enables its wider adaptability to different agro climate. For round the year cultivation, oyster is found to be perfect hence providing the continuous supply to the market ensuring a regular price. The oyster mushroom has 6-7 species that can be utilized in growing the mushroom round the year excluding extreme winters and summers. The winter species such Pleurotus ostreatus, Pleurotus eryngii and Pleurotus citrinopileatus can be grown in winter months. Similarly the species like Pleurotus sajorcaju/P.pulmonarius and Pleurotus djamor suitable as summer species for various part of India. Our article indicates the utilization of these speciesaround the year in various parts of country.
