Abstract

Weight loss In tubers of eleven cultivars stored at 20°C and 85-90% RH for 120 days was determuned and related to penderm thickness, number of cell layers in penderm and number of lenticels per tuber Weight loss showed a significant,
negahve correlahon With periderm thickness (r= -0393*), a non-signiflcant, negative correlation with number of cell layers in penderm (1= -0280) and a sigmflcant, positive correlallon with number of Ienliceis per tuber (r=0 391) Generally, weight loss was higher in cultivarsrwlth thinner periderm, lower number of cell layers in the pendenn and higher number of lenhcels When tubers of six cultivars were stored at 4, 8, 12 and 16°C and 85-90% RH, weight loss differed signiflcantly but not the penderm thickness indicating that penderm thickness is not affected by storage temperature.
