Abstract

Cabbage is a crop of temperate zone but it has spread to both subtropical and tropical regions of the world. Irregular time of planting and inadequate nutrient supply are the factors responsible for lower yield and poor quality of heads. Hence the present investigation was carried out in late kharif 2013-2014 at Horticulture College and Research Institute, Venkataramannagudem, to find out suitable time of planting and optimum nitrogen level for getting maximum yield coupled with high quality heads of cabbage for coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh. The study consisted of 16 treatment combinations resulted from four dates of planting (15thAugust, 1stSeptember, 15thSeptember, 1stOctober) and nitrogen levels (100 kg ha-1, 200 kg ha-1,300 kg ha-1,400 kg ha-1). The experiment was conducted in Randomised Block Design with the factorial concept replicated thrice. Results revealed that planting of cabbage on 15th September along with the application of nitrogen @ 300 kg ha-1(D3N3) recorded the highest head weight, yield per hectare and BC ratio.
