Abstract

Among the sucking pests attacking cotton, leafhoppers (Amrasca biguttula iguttula) are very important. Both nymphs and adults suck the sap from under surface of the leaf causing specking symptoms, crinkling, distortion of leaves and reddening all along the sides of leaves with downward curling. At present, most of the commonly used insecticides are not able to suppress its population below economic thresholds
probably because of development of resistance. Alternately, host plant resistance vis-à-vis, morphological characters of plants like trichomes and allelochemical can be exploited against the leafhoppers.
