Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is the dominant stapleÂ food for more than 50% of world population and IndiaÂ ranks first in the world in terms of area of riceÂ cultivation with 44.6 m ha and second in productivity of 2.96 t ha-1. In Telangana state, rice is grown in anÂ area of 1.7 m ha-1with a production of 6.4 m tons withÂ a of productivity 3.6 t ha-1(India Stat.com., 2015-16).Â Micronutrients are essential for cropÂ production and their deficiency affects growth,Â metabolism and reproductive phase of crop plants.Â Among the micronutrients, zinc deficiency in plantsÂ and soils has been reported across the world. In India,Â zinc is considered as the fourth important yieldÂ limiting nutrient after nitrogen, phosphorus andÂ potassium respectively.
