INTEGRATED WEED MANAGEMENT IN RABI GROUNDNUT (Arachis hypogea L.)

Abstract
Groundnut or peanut (Arachis hypogea L.) is known as the ‘king’ of oilseeds. India is one of the largest producers of Oilseeds in the world, accounting
for 8% of the global oilseeds production using 14% of the world land area, and notified as the second largest producer of groundnut. The demand for edible
oils in the country is rising by 6 per cent per year. Therefore, concerted efforts are now being made for increasing and stabilizing oilseed production. One of
the major constraints in groundnut production is the weed menace and losses caused by weeds are more than any other causes like insects, diseases and
nematodes. On an average the loss of groundnut production in the country due to weeds has been estimated to the tune of 13-80% (Ghosh et al. 2000).
