Abstract

Agriculture sector in Afghanistan contributed 24.32 per cent to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2014-15. The agriculture sector’s share in overall employment in Afghanistan is 59 per cent. The totalexports from Afghanistan were US$570.5 million in 2014-15. The major export items were carpets and rugs (17% of the total export of the country), dried fruits (37%), medicinal plants (6%), fresh fruits (5%), skin (2%) and other items (33%). Hence, dry fruits constitute an important export item from Afghanistan.
