Abstract

India ranks first in the world in area utilized for cashew production and it is the third largest consumer. The endless uses of cashew have led to an exponential growth in its trade over the last few decades. India continued to be the largest
producer of raw cashew nuts in the world. The Present study aims to analyse the export growth pattern of Indian cashew. The study period consists of 20 years starting from 1993-94 to 2012-13. Compound Annual Growth Rate of cashew exports and various aspects of existing status of cashew export were analyzed for different periods depending upon the availability of data. The results evealed that Southern India is the major cashew nuts producing part of the country. Karnataka state’s annual growth rate with respect to area, production and productivity is 2.89 per cent, 4.13 per cent and 1.11 per cent, respectively. The quantity of cashew kernels exports has been gradually increasing along with an annual growth rate of 4.06 per cent per annum and the annual growth rate of export value was 7.25 per cent.
