Abstract

Okra is an important vegetable crop in India which, due to its rising, demand requires constant improvement. To go for improvement it is necessary to choose appropriate parents for hybridization. With this aim in mind, in the present study, an evaluation was done of 20 different genotypes of okra (Abelmoschus esculentus ) based on 16 quantitative characteristics. The analysis was based on several criteria including GCV and PCV, heritability, genetics advance as % mean, correlation and path analysis. The findings showed that the genotypes with the highest scores in plant height, nodes per plant, number of fruit per plant, average fruit weight, and yield were ArkaAbhay and GO-2. These two genotypes were identified as superior and can be used in crop breeding programs
